Our Story
We believe in a future where chronic illness is easy to prevent, diagnose and treat. We have helped countless people live life better. But we still have a long way to go.
How our journey began
In 2007, after years of consultations, tests and referrals, my wife was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Chronic illness was nothing new to me — I had been at the forefront of chronic illness treatment and prevention. But experiencing these shortcomings in diagnosing and treating her condition first-hand made me realize there had to be a better way.
I set out to transform the chronic illness care model. For over 25 years, I have focused on providing optimal diagnosis, treatment, and support for patients, families, and communities in need. When the coronavirus pandemic hit in 2020, I knew there was clearly much more to be done. Opportunities to prevent and treat chronic illnesses were being missed, and support for at-risk populations needed to be more accessible and affordable.
At the height of the pandemic, I hired Gita Castallian, MPH, to help me develop a long Covid wellness program. Her mother was living with long Covid at the time and Gita had also directly experienced health disparities in chronic illness care. Together, we envisioned a better future for chronic illness care — one where a personalized, data-driven approach is used to address underlying causes and drivers of illness.
Thus was born the Functional Medicine Research and Technology Center — a non-profit dedicated to transforming the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of chronic illness through innovative research and technologies.
