Lyme Disease & Tickborne Illness Programs

Our Tickborne Illness Recovery Program provides support and education regarding effective diagnosis, testing, and treatment for those living with chronic tickborne diseases.

Millions of people across the country are affected by persistent Lyme disease and coinfections (Lyme+). Lyme disease has been detected in 50 states in the U.S. Unfortunately, tickborne illness is often misdiagnosed and improperly treated, and can lead to a wide range of debilitating symptoms, including chronic pain, depression and anxiety, cardiovascular issues, neurological conditions, and more.

Our Tickborne Illness Recovery Program is raising awareness of Lyme disease and other tickborne illnesses, and transforming the way our health system approaches these life-changing conditions.

Reduce Misdiagnosis

The U.S. CDC estimates that nearly 500,000 Americans are infected with Lyme disease each year. But without effective testing and widespread underreporting, the real number is, in fact, much greater.

Lyme disease is frequently mistaken for other illnesses. The many symptoms of Lyme can include, but are not limited to:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Neuropathy, particularly numbness and tingling
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Cognitive dysfunction and brain fog
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia and sleep disturbances
  • Neuropsychiatric illness, such as depression, anxiety, and suicidality
  • Sudden-onset aggression and violence
  • Heart rhythm abnormalities
  • Neurodegenerative diseases

Thanks to your support, we are educating medical communities, performing research, and working to ensure that cases of Lyme disease are diagnosed as early as possible.

Provide effective treatments

For decades, it was believed that Lyme disease could be treated with a single course of antibiotics. However, research has now shown that up to 30% of patients have long-term, chronic symptoms after initial treatment. Our Tickborne Illness Recovery Program provides support for those living with Lyme disease and other tickborne illnesses. By effectively treating the underlying cause of symptoms, we’ve already helped countless patients on the road to recovery.

Fund future research

Lyme disease is on the rise globally, yet few healthcare providers are aware of the magnitude of the problem, let alone understand how to detect and treat it effectively. Research shows that treating Lyme disease costs the US medical system $1.3B per year[1]. Despite this, in 2021, only 0.3% of the NIH’s budget went towards research for Lyme disease[2].

By supporting our Tickborne Illness Recovery Program, you are funding scientific breakthroughs into the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Lyme disease and other tickborne conditions.
